Bodywork
The bodywork of a moped is designed to provide aerodynamics while protecting the core components of the moped. It also offer sleek, clean lines and helps to provide a very basic level of protection for riders. In recent years it is fair to say mopeds have become much more attractive with both sporty and classic bodyworks the norm on many models. This is mainly the result of improving bodyworks and in this section we will explain how they are made today.
So to today many of the mopeds we see on the road are made using a range of materials include carbon fibre and ABS plastics. These materials are often used for the bodywork of a moped. Carbon fibre is typically much more expensive to manufacture but however it offers incredible light weight features and durability. If you can, this is the material you want your bodywork to be made with. Cheaper mopeds are sometimes made using ABS plastic. This is still a good material but not quite as premium grade as carbon fibre.
Because your mopeds bodywork is designed to protect the inner workings you will be required to remove these bodywork panels to carryout maintenance. Manufacturers have tried to make these as easy to remove as possible and can be taken off using standard allen head or crosshead screwdrivers. Having said this when looking to remove panels you should check to see if there are any interlocking elements of clips. These can be a pain to unclip but if you try to force panels off you will cause damage to the bodywork.
Once you have completed your maintenance you will need to put your bodywork panels. Before doing this check the condition of the clips, washers and screws. If they are in poor condition you should replace these. You should also be careful not to put excessive stress on the panel when screwing them back into place. This will cause cracks. Just ensure that they are secure.
Little can be said about bodywork apart from that it is difficult to replace or customise. You should take care when maintaining these and don’t forget to check out our moped cleaning guide.
